Best 15+ Animation Studios in Bangkok

What the Bangkok animation market is actually built to make

Supply in this city grew out of advertising and broadcast rather than out of feature film. Most teams you will meet are set up to turn a campaign idea into half a minute of finished screen work: commercials, motion graphics for regional brand launches, character spots for consumer goods, explainer films for banks and insurers, and vertical cut downs for social feeds. A smaller group takes service work from foreign productions, handling shot packages, clean up and compositing under someone else's direction.

That history should shape your brief. A team fluent in commercial animation will hit a broadcast delivery date and match a brand book to the pixel. Asking the same team to develop an original series, hold a story across episodes and design a cast from nothing is a different trade, and you should expect separate development time and a separate fee for it.

Thai on screen changes the frames, not only the voice track

Buyers routinely treat the local language as a dubbing line item. It is not. Thai script sits taller than Latin type, carries marks above and below the baseline, and does not break between words the way English does. Lower thirds, kinetic type and any lettering that is animated rather than laid over the picture all have to be rebuilt, not translated. If your master is English and the Thai version is an afterthought, the local cut will look cramped and the timing will drift out of sync with the motion.

Decide at the storyboard stage which language is the master. Ask to see a still frame with real Thai text in it before production starts, and ask who signs off on the wording, because the studio is not your legal reviewer.

Overlap hours decide how many review rounds you really get

Working time here runs well ahead of Europe and far ahead of North America. That is an advantage if you use it deliberately: notes sent at the end of a Western day are worked overnight and waiting the next morning. It becomes a problem when a project needs conversation rather than instruction, which is exactly what happens during design and animatic approval.

Agree a fixed live window in writing, early in the working day on the studio side, and put the messy stages inside it. Also agree how notes are delivered. Timecoded comments on a review platform survive translation and time zones; a phone call at the edge of the day does not.

Approve the animatic before anyone locks a budget

The animatic is the cheapest place to be wrong. It is the storyboard cut to the real soundtrack at the real length, and it tells you whether the idea works before a single finished frame exists. Studios in this market are good at producing them quickly, and many will do so as a paid first stage.

Structure the engagement that way. Pay for the animatic as its own small contract, review it properly, and only then commission production. If a quote covers concept to delivery in one number with no approval gate in the middle, ask for it to be split. Changes after full animation has begun cost several times what they cost at animatic stage, and that is where budget disputes with offshore teams usually start.

Ask what arrives with the final render

Most disputes after delivery are about the files nobody discussed. A finished video is the smallest part of what your money produced. Behind it sit project files, character rigs, layered source artwork, licensed fonts, the music cue and the voice recording. If you ever want a second version, a shorter cut or a new end card, you need those assets and the right to use them.

Put a delivery list in the contract naming the editable project, the layered artwork, the rigs and the audio stems, and state that copyright transfers to you on final payment rather than on handshake. Check the music and font licences separately: both are usually bought for a defined term and territory, and neither transfers automatically because you paid the invoice.

Paying a studio in Thailand without surprises

Contracts here are commonly written in English and quoted in either baht or dollars. Neither is wrong, but only one of you carries the currency risk, so name the billing currency in the agreement rather than in an email. Bank transfers from abroad attract fees on both ends, and international withholding rules may require you to deduct tax at source and supply a certificate, which the studio will ask for at year end.

Milestones beat monthly billing on production work. Tie payments to accepted stages, animatic accepted, design locked, animation accepted, master delivered, so that each release corresponds to something you have seen and approved.

The holiday calendar moves dates more than the brief does

Schedules slip here for reasons that never appear in a plan. Songkran in April effectively closes the working week around it, the New Year period at the turn of the calendar takes out another block, and the monsoon months pile live action shoots into the dry season, which pulls senior compositing and cleanup staff onto other jobs. None of this is hidden, but nobody volunteers it either.

Before you sign, ask for the delivery date on a calendar with local public holidays marked, and ask who covers your project if the lead artist is away during one of those weeks.

Comparing offers from Bangkok animation studios

Quotes from this market vary more in what they include than in what they charge, so rewrite each one onto the same short grid: total finished seconds, animation technique, number of review rounds included, whether design and the animatic are inside the price, language versions covered, and which files transfer at the end. Fill those lines in and most of the apparent price gap disappears.

Send every studio the same brief on the same day, with the same reference links and the same deadline for replies, then read the replies for questions rather than promises. The team that asks about audience, placement and approval chain before quoting is the team that has done this before. Start from the wider directory of animation studios by market, look at what neighbouring disciplines such as live action production teams or the social media teams listed for this city would charge if part of the job is better handled elsewhere, and when your shortlist is ready you can request proposals from several of them at once.
