Tel Aviv Public Relations Agencies for Tech Brands

Most PR briefs written in Tel Aviv are aimed at readers somewhere else

This is the defining feature of the local practice and the thing that confuses buyers who assume a local agency sells local coverage. A large share of companies headquartered here sell to customers and raise money abroad, which means the target publications are foreign technology, business and trade titles, and the audience that matters is an investor, an enterprise buyer or an analyst in another time zone. Domestic coverage is useful for recruitment, for credibility with local partners and for government relations, but it rarely moves the commercial number.

So the first question in any evaluation is which audience you are actually paying to reach. A consultancy strong with domestic business desks may have almost no standing with overseas technology reporters, and a boutique built around outbound work may be unable to place a story in the local press. Both are legitimate businesses. Buying the wrong one is the most common and most expensive mistake made here, and it is entirely avoidable by asking for recent placements broken down by market.

The funding announcement is a genre with its own rules

Investment rounds, acquisitions and international expansion form the backbone of business news out of this ecosystem, and the volume is high enough that a standard announcement disappears immediately. Reporters covering the sector receive far more of them than they can write, so selection turns on whether the story contains something beyond the raise: a named customer willing to be quoted, an operating metric nobody else discloses, a technical claim that can be verified, or a category shift the reporter can build an argument around.

Exclusivity practice matters too. Offering a story under embargo to one outlet buys depth but forecloses others, and mishandling an embargo damages a relationship that took years to build. Ask how the agency decides between exclusivity and broad distribution, and what they do when an embargo breaks early. The answer reveals whether they think about journalists as partners or as distribution.

Security review, confidentiality and dual-use sensitivities

Some categories carry a review obligation that does not exist in most markets. Material touching defence, security systems, certain communications technologies and anything with military application may require clearance before publication, and export control rules constrain what can be described about capability, customers and destinations. Companies whose founders came from technical military units also face a delicate question about how much of that background may be referenced.

The practical rule is that legal and security review sits upstream of drafting, not at the end. Ask how a prospective partner handles a client whose most interesting story cannot be told, because that is a routine situation here, and the skill is in building credibility from what remains. Firms with real experience describe workarounds specifically: customer proxies, technical abstraction, third-party validation and timing around permitted disclosure.

Two working weeks, one deadline

The local week runs Sunday to Thursday. Friday is a short day and the weekend falls on Friday evening and Saturday, which means your local team is working when much of the world is not, and offline when American and EU newsrooms are at their busiest. That asymmetry is genuinely useful if you plan for it: Sunday is a productive day for preparing material for a Monday news cycle abroad, and Thursday afternoon is a poor moment to launch anything that needs local follow-up.

The autumn holiday cluster is the other scheduling reality. A dense sequence of religious holidays across roughly a month suspends normal business rhythm, and the spring festival period does the same on a smaller scale. Summer brings school holidays and thinner staffing. Any agency proposing a launch calendar without those blocks marked has not planned in this market.

Crisis work when the geopolitical context is the story

Security events interrupt business communications here in a way that other markets rarely experience. Launches are postponed at short notice, staff are called away, and international customers ask direct questions about continuity, delivery risk and staff safety. Companies that handle this well have prepared materials in advance: a continuity statement for customers, guidance for employees, a position on where infrastructure and data sit, and a clear internal rule about who speaks publicly on political questions and who does not.

That last rule deserves attention. Executives are frequently invited to comment on matters far outside their business, and a spontaneous statement can cost customers in markets that were never part of the conversation. Agree the boundary in writing, rehearse it with spokespeople, and make sure the agency knows the escalation path when a reporter pushes.

Hebrew and English are separate programmes

Domestic business coverage is produced in Hebrew for an audience that follows this ecosystem closely and knows the players, so material converted from English marketing copy reads as an outsider's document even when the company is local. Meanwhile, material aimed at foreign outlets has to be written to the conventions those newsrooms expect, which are stricter about evidence and less tolerant of superlatives than local promotional writing.

Insist on knowing who writes each track. A single person rarely does both well. Where recruitment or partner credibility matters domestically, the Hebrew programme needs its own targets and its own measurement rather than being treated as a byproduct of the international effort.

Scoping a retainer and measuring what it produced

Boutique structures dominate here, which is an advantage because senior people do the work, and a risk because capacity is thin. Protect against both by naming the consultants, stating the share of their week you receive, and requiring notice before substitution. Set the cadence in journalist conversations rather than documents produced. Require paid placements to be disclosed at cost and labelled, and treat guaranteed coverage promises as disqualifying.

Judge results by what they unlock: inbound enquiries citing a named article, investor and analyst conversations that opened after a feature, inclusion in category roundups your buyers read, and search visibility for the terms procurement teams use. Because those depend on more than earned media, programmes are commonly scoped alongside a search visibility partner in the same city or a local engineering team, and companies whose customers sit outside the metropolitan area often compare against agency coverage nationwide.

Shortlisting a public relations agency in Tel Aviv

Send the same one-page brief to three firms and compare their interpretations rather than their client logos. Ask for two examples in your category, including one that did not land, and what they changed. Ask which foreign reporters they have briefed in the past quarter and on what. Ask who approves a statement during a security incident. Ask what they would refuse to say for you.

The wider public relations agency directory helps you see how firms describe their specialisms across markets before the first meeting. When your shortlist is ready, request comparable proposals so the decision rests on scope, seniority and process rather than presentation.
